What other behavior intervention strategies or coping skills could she implement in ADDITION to medication management?

In Chapter 4 we discussed cultural factors in perception.

Think of a demographic based on race, sexual orientation, or disability.

1. Choose a demographic and list some of the prejudices, biases, stereotypes, and discrimination that group may face either at work, community, or in social settings.

2. Are these perceptions based in fact. If so, please state the reasons to support this. And if not, how are these perceptions unfounded?

3. What are some things needed to socially change the perceptions of this demographic group?

SECOND ASSIGNMENT

Imagine that you have a client, Tiffany Harris coming to see you for help. The client tells you she has a family history of mental illness specifically mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. The client witnessed her mother who suffered from depression all of her life. She is seeking medication and or therapy to manage her behaviors which mirror anxiety.

Answer the following 3 questions:

1) As a student “intern” based on your understanding of the material, how would you explain how both genetics and her environment play a factor in her behaviors.

2) If the client continues to push for medication, what neurotransmitter drug would be helpful to assist her?

3) What other behavior intervention strategies or coping skills could she implement in ADDITION to medication management?

. Explain these aspects of the drug in terms of the psychiatric disorders indicated for the drug and the issue(s) associated with that use.

Select a psychoactive drug that is of pharmacological interest to you, but not one you will review as part of your Critical Review. For this paper, you may choose drugs of abuse; however, the paper must focus on the pharmacology of the drug and not on the social or addictive aspects. If you focus on addiction and social impact, your paper will not receive credit.

In addition to the text, research a minimum of three peer-reviewed articles published within the last five years on your selected drug. Prepare a three-page summary of the drug using the PSY630 Rapid Review Example paper (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. as a guide.

In your Rapid Review, analyze and explain the pharmacological aspects of the drug as they relate to the following: neurotransmitters affected, receptors, route of administration, half-life, doses, side effects, drug interactions, contraindications, and other important facets of the drug. Explain these aspects of the drug in terms of the psychiatric disorders indicated for the drug and the issue(s) associated with that use. If there is no accepted therapeutic use for the drug, evaluate and describe the actions of the drug with regard to the abuse process.

The paper:

  • Must be three to five double-spaced pages in length, excluding title page and references page, and it must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
  • Must include a title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Your name
    • Course name and number
    • Your instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
  • Must use at least three peer-reviewed sources in addition to the text.
  • Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
  • Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Do you agree with the assessment? How can what you have learned about yourself help support your learning performance?

Prior to engaging in this discussion please read Chapter 7: Evolving Frameworks, in your e-book, watch the Theory of Multiple Intelligences (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.video, read the article “Multiple Intelligences” (2011), and review the Instructor Guidance.

Traditionally, someone who is intelligent is defined as an individual who can solve problems, use logic to answer questions, and think critically. However, psychologist Howard Gardner has created a much broader definition of intelligence called multiple intelligences, which is more focused on our areas of learning preferences. For this discussion, please complete the following:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of intelligence (IQ) and multiple intelligences (MIs) by comparing and contrasting the differing variables associated with each.
  • Thinking critically about these foundational differences, comment on how Gardner’s ideas about learning preferences might change the way we assess a person’s strengths and weaknesses.
  • Click the following link and take the MI assessment (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Review your results.
    • Do you agree with the assessment? How can what you have learned about yourself help support your learning performance? List at least two behaviors you could change or traits you could develop in your own behaviors, and explain how they support your assessment results.

How would a Milan-style therapist approach the current presenting problem? Identify and describe two interventions that would be used and why.

Be sure to answer the following questions in your paper:

  1. How would Jay Haley or Chloe Madanes approach the current presenting problem? Identify and describe two interventions that he/she may use and why.
  2. How would an MRI-style therapist approach the current presenting problem? Identify and describe two interventions that would be used and why.
  3. How would a Milan-style therapist approach the current presenting problem? Identify and describe two interventions that would be used and why.

Vargas Case Study

The Vargas family arrives to their 5th session together and on time. As a follow-up to the last session’s focus on the family structure, you decide to consider a strategic approach this week. To check in, you invite them to share any feedback from last week’s session. Bob reports that he apologized to Elizabeth for “mishandling the suspension thing” then complains that Elizabeth is still “holding a grudge.” He admits that he often does not understand why she gets so upset and that he wants her to be happy. Elizabeth acknowledges that the apology “is a start” and suggests that the reason Bob doesn’t understand is that he “doesn’t ever listen” to her. Bob tells Elizabeth that he listens, but gets frustrated because he doesn’t know how to “fix it.”

You notice Frank and Heidi sitting together, quietly looking at a book while their parents talk. You inquire about any noticeable changes made during the week. Both parents claim to have made an effort to avoid raising his/her voice and report being pleased with their conduct. When asked about the children, Elizabeth reports noticing improvement. Bob, however, expresses frustration with Frank’s constant need of redirection and numerous reminders to complete his chores. Bob also noted an increase in Heidi’s demands for attention.

What is the purpose of studying and understanding statistics, both descriptive and inferential?

The focus of this course is on understanding and properly using the concepts and language of descriptive and inferential statistics in the context of research. During this course, you will develop important critical thinking skills as you interpret and critique data analyses in various research designs. Mastery in these areas will improve your ability to effectively communicate and report statistical reasoning and results using professional language and APA formatting.

The first week of the course provides a foundation of the study of statistics in the behavioral sciences. We will explore the basic concepts, characteristics, and types of statistics, variables, and distributions. In addition, you will explore the different ways of describing data using measures of central tendency, variability, and the normal distribution.

You should consider the following questions before and during the readings and assignments this week:

  1. What is the purpose of studying and understanding statistics, both descriptive and inferential?
  2. What are the differences between the following concepts: descriptive and inferential statistics; populations and samples; parameters and statistics; independent and dependent variables; and scales of measurement (i.e., nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio)?
  3. How are frequency distributions used to organize and graphically represent data? What can the shape of the frequency distribution tell us about the data?
  4. What are the different measures of central tendency and variability? How are they calculated or determined?
  5. What are the characteristics of a normal distribution?
  6. When and why would we use z scores and means?

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this week, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the difference between a sample and the population. (Aligns with CLOs 1)
  2. Identify the various attributes of a variable (e.g., discrete versus continuous, quantitative versus categorical, and scale of measurement). (Aligns with CLOs 1)
  3. Explain the characteristics and usefulness of a normal distribution. (Aligns with CLOs 1)
  4. Interpret z scores. (Aligns with CLOs 1)

Explain how ethical concerns might arise related to things such as prenatal tests and predictions.

With the evolution of Google, accessible information, the study of genetics, prenatal tests, social media, and many other sources of information for new parents, the process of preparing for a healthy baby can be overwhelming.

For this first journal assignment, reflect on the substance and theoretical foundation of what you have learned this week about prenatal development. Then write a reflective essay that addresses the following:

  • Comment on how this week’s learning and materials compliment, oppose, and/or affect change in your positions and attitudes on the relevant subject matter.
  • From this reflection, formulate and articulate three pieces of advice to help expecting parents ensure healthy development of their baby.
  • Analyze how your recommendations are grounded in relevant theory.
  • Explain how a decision to ground your recommendations in a different theoretical framework might have affected your decisions and actions.
  • Based on your response to the previous question, describe what you see as the proper or optimal way to think about the relationship between theory and practice.
  • Explain how the recommendations you selected help to ensure healthy development.
  • Explain how ethical concerns might arise related to things such as prenatal tests and predictions.

Explain how rational choice or trait theory can be used to explain why the people committed the crime.

Choose a high profile case, your choice must be approved by your instructor. In 1,000-1,300 words, examine the following:

  1. Summarize the high profile case you have chosen.
  2. Describe how rational choice or trait theory apply to the case; if both apply, explain how they apply, and if neither applies explain why.
  3. Explain how rational choice or trait theory can be used to explain why the people
    committed the crime.
  4. Describe how rational choice and trait theorists would view this specific case.
  5. Explain significant studies used by the theorists and how the studies might apply to understanding the case.

Use three to four scholarly resources to support your explanations.
